An American Airlines flight flying from New York to New Delhi was forced to divert to Rome on Sunday following a bomb threat.
The video below shows it being escorted by European fighter jets.
The airline confirmed the diversion in a statement, noting that there was a “potential security threat onboard.”
“We are working closely with local authorities and will provide updates as the situation develops. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our passengers,” they added.

News agency PTI, the flight status and reason for diversion were not immediately revealed.
Authorities based in both the United States and Europe are expected to investigate the incident.
Sunday’s development comes in the wake of a bomb threat directed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday afternoon. The threat prompted evacuations and road closures in D.C.
Authorities have not disclosed the source of the threat or whether explosives were found inside the Kennedy Center.
