An American Airlines flight flying from New York to New Delhi was forced to divert to Rome on Sunday following a bomb threat.

Flight AA 292 left JFK on Saturday night and was over the Caspian Sea when it changed course and headed to Europe. According to the AA website, the plane was expected to land at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport around 5:30 local time.

The video below shows it being escorted by European fighter jets.

The airline confirmed the diversion in a statement, noting that there was a “potential security threat onboard.”

“We are working closely with local authorities and will provide updates as the situation develops. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our passengers,” they added.
